There Won’t Be Time and There Probably Won’t Be a Supply
After a radiological event, radioactive particles can contaminate our environment, leading to the inhalation or ingestion of these particles through food and water. The thyroid gland is especially vulnerable to radiation poisoning, so protecting it immediately is crucial. Iodine emerges as the most effective natural remedy for shielding the thyroid from radiation, while also providing overall health benefits. However, many individuals already suffer from significant iodine deficiency, creating a dangerous “perfect storm” when exposed to increased radiation levels. People with low iodine levels are defenseless against radiation fallout, such as from the Fukushima disaster or other sources.
Iodine and Radiation Protection
Doctors around the world, including the renowned holistic physician Dr. David Brownstein, are noticing a chronic iodine deficiency in their patients. Dr. Brownstein, who is an authority on iodine, stated after testing over 500 patients that an astonishing 94.7 percent were lacking adequate levels of inorganic iodine. This widespread deficiency not only undermines our defense against radiation but also affects overall health. Research by Dr. Brownstein and others underscores the crucial role of iodine in protecting against radiation damage. Scientific evidence suggests that when the thyroid is saturated with non-radioactive iodine, it cannot absorb radioactive particles, which then pass harmlessly through the body. Dr. Brownstein emphasizes the importance of maintaining sufficient iodine levels before any potential exposure to radioactive fallout:
>”If there is enough inorganic, non-radioactive iodine in our bodies (thyroid), the radioactive fallout has nowhere to bind in our bodies. It will pass through us, leaving our bodies unharmed. It is important to ensure that we have adequate iodine levels BEFORE this fallout hits.”
The Best Type of Iodine
Among various forms of iodine, nascent iodine stands out as the most effective. It is preferred over iodine/iodide mixes because it is more readily absorbed by the body, is gentle on the stomach, and has a purer taste. Nascent iodine is recommended for personal or family use due to its superior absorption and minimal side effects compared to potassium iodide.
In the event of a nuclear emergency, like fallout from Fukushima, a few servings of nascent iodine can effectively saturate the thyroid—a process known as “iodine loading.” Even under normal conditions, maintaining adequate iodine levels is beneficial for combatting everyday radiation exposure. When selecting an iodine supplement, it’s important to choose formulas free of alcohol and other harsh additives. Alcohol-based tinctures can compromise the nutritional value and effectiveness of iodine. Opting for a non-alcoholic, pure nascent iodine ensures both purity and efficacy.
