Iced Chai Latte Recipe
If you’re looking for a refreshing and tasty alternative to coffee, this vegan-friendly iced chai latte is a favorite of mine that you absolutely have to try!
Pu-Erh Tea
First up, we have Pu-Erh tea. Originating from China, this tea has a history dating back to the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 CE). To ensure quality and authenticity, only tea from the Yunnan province can be called Pu-Erh tea. Various estates produce Pu-Erh tea, each using leaves from wild plants and ancient trees, some of which are over 1,000 years old.
Once harvested, each producer follows their own blending recipes. To make black Pu-Erh tea, a fermentation process is used, during which natural enzymes generate heat to “cook” the leaves. This process adds a unique complexity, depth, and smoothness to the tea.
Pu-Erh tea is believed to support healthy blood sugar levels and may have anti-obesity properties. It’s also packed with antioxidants, boasting higher antioxidant activity than green, oolong, and black teas. In traditional Chinese medicine, Pu-Erh tea is thought to:
– Aid in digestion
– Boost the immune system and heart health
– Provide high levels of easily absorbed vitamin C
Chai Spice Yerba Mate
The second ingredient is Chai Spice Yerba Mate, a popular South American tea. Yerba mate is well-known for its numerous health benefits, thanks to its rich content of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, polyphenols, and amino acids. Some of the potential benefits of yerba mate include:
– Supporting weight loss
– Promoting heart health
– Boosting energy levels
– Enhancing digestive function
– Providing antioxidants
Raw Almond Milk
Finally, we have raw almond milk, a wonderful dairy-free alternative. Along with coconut and hemp milk, raw almond milk is one of the few plant-based milk products I use and recommend. It’s best to avoid soy milk.
Iced Chai Latte Directions
Here’s how to make your own iced chai latte:
1. Steep one bag of Pu-Erh tea and one bag of Chai Spice Mate in a cup of hot water for 3 to 5 minutes.
2. Pour the tea over ice (optional).
3. Add raw almond milk to taste.
