The Link Between Prenatal Exposure to Pollutants and Childhood BMI
Recently, a colleague shared with me the findings of a study that highlights a connection between higher body mass index (BMI) in toddlers and their mothers’ prenatal exposure to environmental pollutants, such as pesticides found in our food.
The study, published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, concluded that there is a direct link between prenatal chemical exposure and birth weight and length.
Unfortunately, this is yet another piece of evidence showing that toxic chemicals are pervasive in our environment and have a profoundly negative impact on our health, including the health of unborn children.
Harmful chemicals like pesticides, chemical sprays on food, DDEs, and PCBs are known to disrupt our endocrine systems. When young children are exposed to these chemicals early on, it can weaken their endocrine systems.
Why We Need to ‘Detoxify’ Our Lives
Hugh A. Tilson, PhD, editor of the journal, stated, “With childhood obesity continuing to increase at an alarming rate, this study is an important step in assessing possible mechanisms by which pollutants may alter energy metabolism early in life.”
Studies like this underscore the need to detoxify our lives and clean up our living environments. While it’s impossible to completely avoid toxins today, we can take proactive steps to reduce our exposure. This includes detoxifying our bodies, the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, and the items in our homes.
My latest book, The Green Body Cleanse, offers easy, at-home solutions to systematically remove chemicals and toxins from your body, home, and office. Chronic symptoms such as anxiety, headaches, allergies, fatigue, sleep issues, skin problems, depression, and sinus trouble are increasingly being linked to the toxicity of our living environments.
Reading more articles like this one motivates me to share our cleansing and “Green Living” products with the world. It’s especially crucial for pregnant women to protect their unborn children from harmful environmental toxins. By breathing cleaner air, drinking purer water, and living in a healthier environment, mothers can help create a cleaner, less toxic world for their children.
How To Purify Your Living Environment
To start detoxifying your life, consider the following areas:
Body Cleansing
Regularly cleanse your body, including your intestinal tract, liver, gallbladder, and remove harmful organisms and heavy metals.
Air Quality
Indoor air can be more toxic than outdoor air. Invest in a high-quality air purification system, such as the Guardian Air REME+ Air Purification System.
Water Quality
The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that there are around 80 potentially dangerous chemicals in our tap water. Use a home water test kit to identify toxins in your water and invest in a high-tech water purifier to reduce toxin levels.
Stress
Stress at home and work can weaken our immune systems. Incorporate daily walks, meditation, yoga, or massages into your routine. Your body will thank you.
Radiation
Devices like computers and cell phones emit harmful electromagnetic field radiation (EMF). Protect yourself by investing in radiation protection for your home or office.
To truly combat today’s diseases, we must address the root cause: toxic overload. By eliminating the sources of these toxins, we can improve our health and well-being.
